SC United Shares 2026 GymACT Commissioner’s Cup National Title with Rocky Mountain Mavericks

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma — May 2026

Southern California United added another major milestone to its men’s collegiate gymnastics story, sharing the 2026 GymACT Commissioner’s Cup national championship with the Rocky Mountain Mavericks at the sixth annual GymACT National Championships.

The championship was held May 9, 2026, at the Oklahoma City Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, alongside the USA Gymnastics Men’s Development Program National Championships. For SC United, the result was more than a trophy. It was proof that a self-funded, independent college-style program can stand with the strongest men’s gymnastics teams in the country.

SC United was founded in 2014 by Head Coach and Founder Heinz Schulmeister, who built the program to give Southern California male gymnasts a serious competitive pathway after high school. The team’s coaching staff includes Assistant Coaches Nick Horner, Troy Williams, Adam Lomax, and Sameere Ekanayake. Together, they have helped develop a program that draws athletes from colleges across Southern California while training primarily out of New Hope Gymnastics in Fountain Valley, California.

The GymACT model makes that possible. GymACT, the Gymnastics Association of College Teams, describes its mission as starting, growing, and maintaining men’s college gymnastics programs, with member teams largely operating as self-funded programs. (GymACT)

That mission was fully visible in Oklahoma City.

In the photos from the championship, SC United athletes and coaches are shown celebrating on the competition floor, holding the Commissioner’s Cup plaque and standing alongside other GymACT programs. Another awards image shows SC United and Rocky Mountain Mavericks sharing the top position — a fitting visual for a national title decided in a tie.

The official recognition from USA Gymnastics also highlighted the significance of the moment, naming Arizona Men’s Gymnastics as team champion, Rocky Mountain Mavericks and SC United as Commissioner’s Cup co-champions, and Elliot Foster as all-around champion. (Instagram)

For SC United, the championship continues a journey that began with a simple but powerful idea: keep men’s collegiate gymnastics alive for athletes who still want to train, compete, and represent something bigger than themselves after high school.

Without the backing of a single university, SC United has built a team from athletes attending different colleges throughout the region. That structure brings challenges — different class schedules, different campuses, different training windows — but the 2026 national result shows that the model can work at the highest GymACT level.

The shared Commissioner’s Cup title places SC United firmly among the top programs in the GymACT movement. It also reinforces Southern California’s role in helping preserve and rebuild men’s collegiate gymnastics at a time when opportunities remain limited nationwide.

As the team posed with the championship plaque, the message was clear: SC United is not just keeping the college gymnastics dream alive — it is winning with it.
